Dear Drama

January 31, 2015 · from the old blog, lightly tidied

It all started three months ago. With a missed call at seven in the morning. Would I like to be in the drama? Of course. I would have to see if I could get off work for it though. One simple call to my boss and it was all worked out. My next thirteen weekends were booked up. My social life would have to be put on hold. Turns out that most of my friends were in the drama too. This was my first one though; I was in untested waters.

I had trust in my directors though. The nerves slowly drifted away as we listened to the drama once through as a group. Once everyone got their parts and heard the lines. Some quick cast changes happened, but no one was flustered. Everything went smoothly. The next weekend we started. Getting our positioning down. Feeling out the timings. When to start heading on to the stage. For me it was a lot of down time too.

I have a small part in the drama. It might be like 30 seconds of stage time. So much of my practices were spent in the back talking to others. Or reading new Watchtowers. I even wrote a few blogs there. I am astounded how everything came together though. The hours of labor that went in to the drama. From the costumes, wigs, and beards. To the props that had to be made. Around a hundred people toiled and sacrificed for this drama. I heard a few people say that they were tired. No complaints though. There was excitement when we got a day off though.

When you see the final product though. When it all comes together, it feels seamless or simple. Things that these people spent countless hours on blur into a one hour performance. I will never take another drama for granted. It is hard work. There is a payoff though. I think during every single practice I would get panicky and nervous. During the real thing though? Calm as a cow at pasture. It was definitely holy spirit working through me. As soon as it started, it was over.

I’m happy that we get to do it once more. That I get to see my drama family working as a large well oiled machine again. I’m hoping that feeling of calmness sets in and everything goes according to plan. The only part I’m not looking forward to is the makeup. Ladies, why do you do this to yourself?! My skin hates it. I couldn’t be happier that I gave up those weekends. That Danny and Tracy thought of me. That I get to be a small part of a big thing. It was a true honor, something I will never forget.
